My "Vortex Series", is inspired by the archetype of the vortex and the Japanese Manga book, Uzimaki by Junji Ito. In my latest series of Vortex Works, I have gone back to spatially exaggerating the illusion of 3-D space on a mostly 2-D plane. These pieces can also be viewed from any direction, and I put hardware on the back to enable the pieces to be hung from any direction. The vortex is an archetype that became meaningful to me graphically when I could only resolve the composition of a collage with a spiral composition. I recognized the spiral and the vortex as an archetype that I wanted to explore further. 

The symbolism of the circular spiral vortex is the spiritual journey of life and the path to enlightenment through energy and time. The meaning implies growth, expansion of knowledge, the cycle of life, evolution, & the balance of energies. In many cultures and spiritual traditions and religions, the vortex is a symbol of spiritual growth, transformation, and connection to higher states of consciousness.  In general, spiritual vortexes are not limited to obvious places in the world. Instead, these vortexes are also present in your body. Like gateways to accessing universal energy, these vortexes are in there, allowing us to become part of the ebb and flow of the universe.
